Brazil is a country of spectacular
sights and culture. Rightfully, Carnival and Football pop to our
minds in the instant the name is mentioned. Those two are the
greatest gift this country gave to humankind. Geographically, Brazil
is a surprisingly large country occupying about half of the South
American continent. It borders to every South American country apart
from Chile and Ecuador. The borders extend from a bit north of the
Equatorial line down to the south of Tropic of Capricorn. So not
surprisingly, a tropical weather and lots of diversity should be
expected. In the northern parts of the country, one wet and one dry
season are noticed. However, southern regions are subject to four
seasons throughout the year. Temperatures never drop too low in this
tropical paradise of great beaches and elaborate facilities.
Today's Brazil was discovered by
Portuguese colonials. Earlier, indigenous tribes existed in this
land. As soon as they arrived, the Europeans' first point of interest
was the natural resource of high quality pau-brasil wood. Trade
volumes went up quickly. Trade of other resources like gold, rubber,
sugar and coffee followed. Back then, as slave labor was popular,
many slaves were brought from Africa. All throughout the new age,
many different Europeans emigrated to this part of the world. And
finally, in modern times, a great deal of Middle Easterners,
especially Lebanese chose this place to live too. Consequently, this
mixed culture created today's Brazil.
Let's talk about the Carnival -the best
known festival of the world. The street celebrations start forty days
before Easter in various regions, most importantly, Rio de Janeiro.
It is a stunning sight of street dancers in vivid colored "somehow
traditional" costumes. Lively music of the globally famous Samba
schools combined together with the fascinating dances of the
beautiful people create an intense feeling of ecstasy. It is
guaranteed to get even the most humble of you to feel the spirit and
start dancing. It is a great joy and pleasure to take part in The
Carnival. Second to the spirit of carnival, football comes to mind.
These people are truly passionate on their love of football. It is
every young boy's -and nowadays, girl's- dream to become a famous
footballer. Considering the number of players exported every year,
this is hardly an "unachievable dream" at all. You can see
the game being played in streets, beaches, everywhere... The games
only stops when there is an important match for the national team,
when everyone, from the highest society circles to residents of the
slums, take their place in front of their tvs, colorfully dressed and
"painted", cheering for their pride and joy. Passion is a
characteristic of Latin people, and in the streets, it really shows.
Everyone is friendly and enthusiastic to start a conversation, or
offer help should you need any.
Carnival and Football; it doesn't end
there either. The natural beauty of this country is awe-inspiring.
The Amazon rainforests house around a million of different species.
That figure cannot be matched easily by any other country or region.
It is easy to spot exotica like monkeys, parrots or others, even near
the cities. And then there are the coastal areas with breathtaking
visuals, top quality beaches and established resorts. These, together
with the lively and cheerful culture, the samba, and the enthusiastic
people, will make you enjoy every minute of your stay to the full
extent. The coastal resorts of Praia de Pipa is a very attractive
destination nowadays, highly recommended by us too.
The cities, from the slums to high
tech, well developed districts are full of life. Make sure you leave
enough time in your schedule for the museums, the nightlife, and
sightseeing monuments like Chris the Redeemer statue in Rio.
The cuisine is unique but somehow less
distinctive. You will find many good local tastes such as the nations
pride "feijoada" but international culture is widely
frequent. We mentioned many different races of people earlier, from
Europeans to Middle Eastern, each offer their own cuisine in their
restaurants. As for the drinks, strong Brazilian coffee already has
the global fame. "cachaça" should be mentioned as the most
known alcoholic beverage of this land, be careful with it, it's very
strong and can knock you off your feet quickly...
Brazil is all about lively atmosphere
and friendly, passionate people. If that's your thing, you will love
your stay more than ever..
