United States / New Jersey
New Jersey is a rather small state at the coast of Atlantic Ocean and is very close and very influenced by the New York City that is just across the Hudson River.
In my opinion, two statistics easily summarize the characteristics of this state very well, First, it is the most densely populated state of the USA and second, it still manages to maintain over fifty per-cent coverage of forests. Being so densely populated means a great diversity of multi-cultural urban life. Cities are packed with action with plenty of sight to see, great culinary options, rapid daily life and energetic night-life. Museums and other cultural facilities are abundant. Adding to these qualities of cities is the perfect unspoiled nature of the environment; beaches at the Atlantic Coasts, mountains, lakes and dense forests. The beaches are perfect for any kind of activity from surfing to beach sports in summer or quiet strolls and walks in the off season. Furthermore, there are more national parks here, than you would expect of such a small state. Especially in the Southern and Northwestern parts of New Jersey, these national parks along with nature preserves, are fantastic spots for hikers, campers and bird-watchers. Some of the other attractions include canoing and hot air ballooning and even skiing. The Six Flags Great Adventure, Safari and Amusement Park in Jersey Shore is known for its tallest and fastest roller coaster ride in the world.
We have to mention the Atlantic City in detail. The city became a gambler's zone in seventies and gained an amazing popularity not surprisingly considering its very close in location to huge metropols like New York and Philadelphia. Today, Atlantic City is the perfect weekend getaway for residents of eastern states. Before the casinos and extravagant hotels arrived, Atlantic City used to be known for its excellent beaches. The most populated city of this state, Newark is very rich in culture and houses some of the best cultural facilities in the area such as the Newark Museum, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Newark Symphony Hall, and Newark Arena.
New Jersey is like a scale model of the USA. It is definitely not short of variety in things to do; there's plenty for every taste and every budget. And that, for me, is sensible travel.
