United States - Chicago Hotels

Chicago is the third densely populated city of the USA. Also called "the Windy City", Chicago is in the state of Illinois and connects this mid-western state to the Lake Michigan.

This contemporary city is the hub of the Midwestern states in culture and economy. The culture is at its richest in this cosmopolitan city, there are many museums and art galleries and there is a very rich heritage of jazz and blues music. On the other hand, the volume of trade is immense; the freight cargo traffic is felt on roads, railroads and even on Lake Michigan. What makes Chicago special is the diversity and integrity it offers. Thanks to the busy commerce, people from very different cultures came together to make this city what it is today. The ethnic towns of Chicago aren't separate communities from the daily life of the metropolis, they are a part of it.

Chicago is not short of sights, thats for sure. For starters, observation level of the Sears Tower supply an astonishing view of the city. Once you orient yourself to the vibrant city life, you have to take the tour of excellent museums. The most important of them, the Field Museum of Natural History, features the best kept giant T-Rex skeleton on display and second to that is the Art Institute of Chicago. The Adler Planetarium, the oldest of its kind today, is a must see destination for any tourist. The area called Navy Pier is the entertainment district of Chicago, there are many attractions for the whole family from mini golfing to boat rides. Because this city has been the hub of trade on the Midwest for centuries, the Museum of Science and Industry -not surprisingly- is the best of its kind here. Chicago's music scene is always lively thanks to the famous Chicago Theater and other Concert halls, as well as jazz and blues cafes and outdoor concerts areas. The contemporary architecture of the city in general is authentic. All the landmarks of “the loop", the downtown skyscraper district, are in harmony with each other, nothing feels out of place. The skyline of Chicago -especially at night- is special. Shopping is another must-do for Chicago. The chic district of Magnificent Mile that houses dining and other recreational spots is very popular nowadays.

Apart from all this urban tourism, Chicago has a very long coast with Lake Michigan, where you'll find peaceful locales and many well-maintained lakeside parks. In these parks, the Crown Fountain and the Pritzker Pavilion are being used as outdoor concert locations. You would be surprised to hear about swimming opportunities and beaches in this part of the world yet they exist and are very popular especially among the residents.

The cuisine of Chicago offers a great deal of variety. You'll find many specialty restaurants in and out of ethnic towns. Chicago's contributions to global cuisine are hot dogs, Chicago style deep dish pizza and the Italian Beef sandwich; each more delicious than the last and should be tried in their capital, here.

Chicago is a pleasant and rich city offering urban tourism at its best. There is just one thing to mind; the weather. Temperatures can go to odd ends in both winter and summer, so it's best to avoid both, and go for autumn and spring.
