City of Antalya steps forward as one of the most sensible destinations for summer tourism. The city is a part of the Turkish Riviera and situated at the north of east Mediterranean. The geographic position is perfect for enjoying the sea in every way.
Antalya is a thousands of years old city and is very rich and diverse in its heritage from stone age to Greek and Roman periods, as well as Turkish periods from Middle ages to this date. Though the city lived uncontrolled expansion in the last century, the main points of attention haven't been disturbed. You can observe the distinction of Roman-Byzantine and Islamic architectures in the old quarters, inside the medieval walls. There are near archaeological dig sites as well as a rich archeology museum displaying hugely impressive collections of items such as well kept examples of Greek sculptures, Roman statues and many more. Beldibi caves feature excellent prehistoric rock engravings while ancient Roman theater of Aspendos and ruins of Perge reveal the dark ages.
The real beauty of Antalya is the natural wonders no doubt. Taurus Mountain Ranges run parallel to the shores and seclude the coastline from the cold winds and drier weather of northern side. The flora of native small bushes turn into dense forest at the higher altitudes, creating picturesque backdrop scenery with different tones of green when you turn your back to the sea and look up a bit. These mountains start to rise not far from the beaches and therefore create fast-changing formations. Rivers run down from hills to meet the sea in many beautiful waterfalls and create the perfect white bubbly waters for rafting enthusiasts. Waterfalls of Duden and Manavgat should be visited. The lush green serenity will cover you, should you decide to leave the exquisite white sand beaches and warm turquoise Mediterranean waters for a while. Antalya is a ten-month sunny city and more than half of it is on-season when the sun is at the perfect setting and best of all, not as dangerous as equatorial regions. What sets Antalya apart from other sea&sun spots is the range of quality offered for such reasonable prices. Even the top notch extravagant resorts that offer all inclusive service for countless different activities of all kinds of watersports to on land activities and animations are not as expensive as their counterparts in other Mediterranean countries are. There are endless options for budget accommodation too, like youth hostels and pensions.
The cuisine, as should be expected is amazingly rich and diverse, featuring a wide variety of meat and vegetable dishes as well. And guess what, restaurants are well priced too. Modern malls and traditional souks cover for the shopping needs, clothing and traditional arts and crafts are highly recommended. Haggling is the method here, you'd be wise to offer half of what the salesman asks at first. As for the nightlife, there are plenty of options from hip late night dance venues and bars to traditional Turkish style raki-houses and sing-alongs.
The city of Antalya is very focused on tourism and that means well service. Language definitely won't be a problem in the daily life. Crime rates are at minimums, all in all, Antalya is an obvious choice for casual all round summer tourism.
