Saying France is one of the most interesting countries in the world wouldn't be surprising to anyone. That is why France attracts more number of tourists every year than any other country in the world about 80 million a year. That is 20 million more than the actual population. This is hardly surprising considering all that is offered. From historical heritage to awe inspiring sights; rich cultural background to serenity of rural towns; beautiful beaches to ski resorts and let's not forget the great cuisine and the most famous vineyards of the world. France is an attractive tourism spot for everyone from every age group.
This great country is situated right in the center of European Continent with the Mediterranean Sea to the south; English Channel and North Sea to the north; Atlantic Ocean to the west; Germany, the Rhine river and the ever so majestic Alps to the East. Oceanic climate covers the west, Mediterranean climate affects the south while inlands there are more continental features. Because of this varied landscape and climate, you will find some of the best beaches on the coastlines, the famous French Riviera, tranquility of green in midlands as well as great ski resorts around the Alpine provinces.
Looking at the history of France a little, you'll notice it had been in the center of many historical turning points of utmost importance: Gauls, The French Revolution and Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, Napoleon Bonaparte and both World Wars. At the colonial times, from the beginning of 17th century to 1960s, French operations were as wide as %8 of the world and the French influence, even greater than that. History and archeology lovers have much to discover. Just to give you an idea; there are many greatly preserved residential Chateux from Medieval eras, many ruins from the time of Romans and a number of neolithic sites.
The name "Paris" is enough for culture enthusiasts to be mesmerized. Sights like the Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum, Palace of Versailles, Arc de Triomphe, Musée Picasso; each of these are must-sees and attract millions of visitors every season.
Even sports fans will be amazed by the number of choices; The European football culture, the 24 hour Le Mans endurance race, rally and track racing events, most famous bicycle event of the world -the annual Tour de France, several Grand Slam tennis tournaments like the French Open or the Paris Masters....
