Canada occupies the northern part of
North America, stretching between the Atlantic and the Pacific. You
can see on the map that the land is huge. In fact, it is the second
largest country of the world. Being so, there is a lot Canada offers.
Canada shares an unguarded land border
with the USA. Most of Canada's large cities are situated very close
to this border. This must be mainly because of the fair weather. It
wouldn't be easy to offer a simple pattern of climate for a land so
huge, basically summer temperatures are around 25 degrees Celsius in
southernmost and coastal areas. Canada is known for its dense
forests. Further north, these forests turn into tundras, and then
finally into barrens of sub arctic. In all this vast land, you can
experience a great habitat in the limitless forests that supply a
great amount of timber as well as sandy beaches along the coasts and
further north, snow as far as eye can see. Everything is large here,
even the animals: grizzly bears, polar bears, moose, whales...
Canada has an immense supply of natural
resources, such as timber and oil. Such wealth, brings higher
qualities and standards of life. Offering such great opportunities,
the country attracts a great deal of immigration. The populace used
to be of British and French origin, but nowadays the country is
turning into a great multi-cultural area. This has created a unique
contemporary culture and way of life that is a pleasure to explore.
Cities are very much alive and "international" in every
way. Canadians are very used to interacting with different cultures.
No one from any culture, would feel out of place here. The people can
be called really open minded compared to the rest of the world. Same
sex marriage is legal. The cities have a lot to offer from
international events and festivals to art galleries and museums of
contemporary art and of course, enjoyable nightlife.
Everything being so international, you
shouldn't expect much local cuisine, the only known local recipe must
be maple syrup which can hardly be called local anymore. That doesn't
mean you won't come across any local tastes though. As for drinks,
you might encounter local beer, that's about it.
Canada's history more or less starts
with colonial times of the 16th century. Before that, only few Asian
tribes traveled to this land, for example, to Yukon region tens of
thousands of years ago. Canada is more about wonders of spectacular
untouched nature. Rocky mountains and cliffs where you can enjoy all
kinds of outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, climbing
or camping; deep forests of the largest trees of the world; rivers
and waterfalls where you can enjoy extreme sports like rafting or
canoing and huge ice covered areas. Niagara Falls, the biggest in all
of the world, is on the border between the USA and Canada. It is the
most popular tourist attraction of Canada.
If you are the winter tourist type, you
should go further north to some of the best ski resorts and
facilities in the world. The climate is quite suitable for winter
sports, most of these facilities are open more than half of the year.
You can also witness the Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights, in the
winter skies, viewed better further north. That alone, would be
enough reason for a visit. Also in even further north, especially in
Churchill, Manitoba, there is an opportunity to watch polar bears!
If you aren't a winter tourist and
enjoy the cities and festivals and green nature, summer and spring
are the time for you; autumn is the cheapest period. Winter's busiest
season is between November and February.
